Certain non-specific adverse events may occur, independently of the laser, after any surgical procedure during which an incision is made in the skin:

– swelling, edema, ecchymosis,
– necrosis,
– suture disunion,
– superficial or deep cutaneous infection
– pain, pruritus
– bleeding,
– scar hypo-pigmentation or hyper-pigmentation
– scar abnormalities ranging from unsightly scars to keloids.

Some local adverse events, specific to the use of any non-ablative laser, may also be observed:
– edema, linked to vasodilation induced by the laser’s thermal effect. This phenomenon resolves spontaneously within 2-3 days.
– erythema, linked to the vasodilation of vessels induced by the laser’s thermal effect. It also resolves spontaneously in less than 5 days.
– transient post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, often due to sun exposure after treatment, may be spontaneous in darker phototypes. Resolution usually occurs within a few weeks. Sun protection is essential, and depigmenting creams can be used if necessary.

What are the benefits of the laser ? Is it efficient ?

While scarring remains a random phenomenon, the quality of which can never be guaranteed, the laser can give you every chance of a more beautiful scar, thanks to the scar biomodulation it induces. Its effectiveness has been clinically proven by a study conducted by Pr Casanaova’s plastic surgery department at the CHU la Conception in Marseille.
